MARINE SHIELD 200 FLEX

Our most versatile product, for use on multiple flexible surfaces

This product was developed before 2011, and has evolved due to various enhancements, into what we now call Marine Shield (MS) 200 Flex. It has been tested and proven on a wide range of flexible substrates, and due to its many unique properties, it has even been used at America’s Cup level, on an AC72 vinyl-wrapped hull, with outstanding results!

MS 200 Flex has been successfully applied to vinyl, PVC, and PVC-blended materials, and we are still discovering more uses - this truly is our most versatile product!

MS 200 Flex can be applied to many different materials, e.g. vinyl-wrapped boats, hood linings, seats, sunshade covers, buoys, fenders, side curtains, hard inflatable docks, PVC tube matting, inflatable structures, paddleboards, spa pool covers, marquees, car tyres (white walling) and many, many more…

BENEFITS OF USING MS UV 200 FLEX?
  • Can be either a clear coat, or colour (full gloss or semi-gloss)
Great range of colours, with the option of customising colours for your specific requirements.
  • Excellent colour stability
Colours last longer, look better, proven to last, even in New Zealand’s harsh UV climate.
  • High tolerance to oil stains/turpentine/paint thinners/diesel/petrol/carbon soot/industrial fallout
Totally sealing the substrate. Just a soapy wash, and it will all come off!
  • Graffiti
Not a problem – can be removed using a general purpose paint thinner, or engine de-greaser, using the wipe-on/wipe-off method, without removing the underlying MS 200 Flex.
  • Can be used as a non-slip surface (when mixed with appropriate ‘grit’)
E.g. Inflatable docks/paddleboards/PVC tube floor matting/PVC covered Catamaran trampolines, to name but a few.
  • Contains UV inhibitors
Specially designed for New Zealand’s harsh maritime climate, to absorb, reflect and scatter UV rays, reducing UV penetration.
  • Incredibly light-weight
25g-50g per square metre, depending on colour choice.
  • Mould/algae/fungi resistance, including ‘red rain’ stain
Just a simple, soapy wash, and it all comes off!
  • Hydrophobic
Repels water, further reducing the weight.
  • High flexibility/elasticity (up to 20%)
Without distorting the material. Great for side curtains and inflatable structures.
  • Outstanding scratch/chafing resistance
Providing a tough and robust, but flexible surface to protect the underlying substrate.
  • Contains self-healing properties
Which maintains a non-scratch finish to the surface, even after washing with brushes.
  • Outstanding adhesion capabilities
Withstanding up to 2,500 psi water blasting adhesion tests.
  • Cost effective and easy to apply (spray or roll)
Following the MS 200 Flex application instructions.
  • Great shelf life
Unopened Part A lasts 2+ years, unopened Part B lasts up to 5 years (from date of manufacture)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  • What constitutes a kit?

MS 200 Flex comes in either a 3 litre kit, or a 6 litre kit.

    This is a 2:1 mixing ratio - 2 Parts A : 1 Part B

  • How many coats are needed?

2 medium coats is generally sufficient. However, for those horizontal surfaces with high UV exposure (e.g. vinyl-wrapped boats), a 3rd coat will give the ultimate protection from UV.

  • How many square metres will a 3 litre kit cover?

    Up to 35sqm (2 coats)

  • How long does it last on the shelf? (From date of manufacture)

Part A will last 2 years+, unopened, when stored as per instructions. Part B can last up to 5 years.

  • How long will the product last once opened?

As long as the lid is replaced firmly and quickly, straight after use, Part A will last up to 12 weeks, and Part B can last up to 3 years.

  • How long does it last once Part A and Part B have been mixed?

Once mixed, it has a relatively short pot life. This will vary, depending upon temperature and humidity, from 30 minutes to 90 minutes. Hotter weather/higher humidity, will cause the paint to go off faster, and cooler weather/lower humidity will cause the paint to go off more slowly.

Therefore, we recommend mixing small amounts, 1-2 litres at a time (depending on size of application; for larger application, we can supply reducer to slow down the process). This will help to keep the paint fresh throughout the application process.

Please Note:

See manufacturer safety data sheets for appropriate storage instructions etc.
Marine Shield products are supplied as trade only, and must be applied by a trained applicator and as per application instructions.
Always perform a test sample to check for adhesion/colour before full application.
